Fans of McDonald’s in locations outside of Australia have long been treated to a selection of special food items which are hidden on the standard Maccas menu. The McDonald’s Secret Menu is a list of range of burger and dessert creations that you can on only access if you know how to find them. Many users online (Reddit, YouTube) have uploaded videos and step by step instructions for how to access and order these hidden (“secret”) menu items.

Sadly, we have not seen these make their way to Australian McDonald’s store – yet! However, fear not. In the following article we are going to step you through our Top 5 items from the Macca’s Secret Menu that are available in the USA, and how you can hack the local menu here in Australia to get the very same options for yourself.

1. McMuffin Pizzas

This is one of the most simple but tasty of the hidden menu items. To create your own version here in Australia, order yourself an English muffin, split it open in halves, order some premium cheese, and add your choice of toppings. Now you have your very own Maccas pizza.

2. Strawberry Sprite

This one of from the drinks range in the Secret Menu. Order yourself a standard Sprite softdrink (with or without ice, it’s up to you). To that you then add a squirt of Strawberry Thickshake Syrup. We’ve tried this one ourselves – delicious!

3. Monster Mac

Warning. Do not attempt this one unless you are REALLY hungry. You can hack the existing Australian McDonald’s menu and create your very own Monster Mac by first ordering yourself a standard Big Mac hamburger. Then you simply order a side of x6 extra meat patties. That’s right – x6 extra! Open up your Big Mac and cafefully assemble the additional meat patties on top. After that, is when your eating skills will be really tested. Take a good grip of the burger, and start munching. If you see any movement of the patties, be sure to stop and adjust the stack, otherwise this delicious McDonald’s tower of meat could come toppling all over you.

4. Land, Sea & Air Burger

This is the McDonalds version of the traditional Surf & Turf, but with a Maccas twist. This mouth watering creation from the McDonald’s Secret Menu can be recreated by even novices. Start by ordering yourself a regular Big Mac burger – i.e. the Land component. Then order yourself a Filet-O-Fish burger, and now you have the Sea component. Finally, order yourself a McChicken burger (crispy or grilled), and now you have the final piece of the puzzle which is the Air component. Next comes the most challenging part of the creation. I like to start with the Big Mac, open this up and seperate each of the layers. Then grab your Filet-O-Fish and insert the fish patty onto one of the layers of the Big Mac. Do the same with the McChicken patty. Of course, if you’re feeling extra adventurous you can also add the buns as well for a mega creation. The final step is to combine them altogether, and do your best to wrap your mouth around your hack of this Maccas Secret Menu favourite.

5. Apple Pie McFlurry

This hack features two seperate items from the desserts menu. Start by ordering yourself a plain vanilla McFlurry, without any toppings or flavourings. You’ll want to order the McFlurry because it comes with a large paper cup and sturdy spoon, which will be useful in the next step. Next you want to move on to the crunch factor. Order yourself an Apple Pie of your choice. For the Maccas purist out there, go for the standard Hot Apple Pie. Use the plastic spoon from your McFlurry to crush up the apple pie into small bite-sized chunks and then drop them in. Again use the spoon to swish around the pie pieces, making sure that each of them is coated evenly with that delicous McFlurry ice-cream. The deep-fried and crispy goodness of the hot apple pie is a beautiful twist against the coldness and smoothness of the vanilla ice-cream in the McFlurry. It’s no wonder that many maccas-freaks rate this hack from the McDonald’s Secret Menu as the best overall.
